Whether you are an existing patient or here to explore options, we are dedicated to helping you on your path to healing

A Patient's Journey

We understand that living with a chronic wound is painful, stressful, and deeply personal. That’s why we provide compassionate care every step of the healing journey — supporting not just the wound, but the whole patient. At Breedlove Wound Care, we believe every wound tells a story — and every patient deserves a path to healing that’s personal, compassionate, and effective. Our team is with you every step of the way.

I have a non-healing wound, what do I do now?

Step One:
Your Initial Evaluation

Your journey begins with a comprehensive wound assessment performed by one of our experienced Nurse Practitioners or Wound Care Specialists.

We Will:

  • Review your medical history, medications, and lifestyle factors that may affect healing.

  • Conduct a detailed wound examination, including size, depth, drainage, and tissue type.

  • Perform vascular testing (such as ABI or TBI studies) when indicated to ensure proper blood flow to the area.

  • Identify potential underlying issues — diabetes, circulation, infection, or pressure — that may be slowing recovery.

Our goal during this first visit is to understand you as whole person, not just the wound.

Step Two:
Developing Your Personalized Treatment Plan

After your evaluation, your provider will create a customized treatment plan designed around your wound type and individual needs. This may include:

  • Advanced dressings that promote moisture balance and protect against infection.

  • Debridement to remove dead or unhealthy tissue and jump-start healing.

  • Compression therapy for venous ulcers or swelling.

  • Offloading or pressure relief strategies for diabetic foot wounds.

  • Nutrition counseling and coordination with your primary care provider to support healing from the inside out.

We’ll explain each step clearly and ensure you’re comfortable with your plan before beginning care.

Step Three:
Ongoing Wound Management and Monitoring

Healing is a process — and you won’t go through it alone.

At each follow-up visit, our team will:

  • Measure and photograph your wound to track progress.

  • Adjust your treatment as needed to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Watch for early signs of infection or delayed healing.

  • Provide education on at-home care, including how to change dressings safely and when to seek help.

Our patients often tell us that these visits bring peace of mind — not just progress.

Step Four:
Advanced Therapies and Skin Substitutes          (When Needed)

For wounds that don’t respond to standard treatment, advanced biologic therapies may be the next step.

Before we use a skin substitute, our team ensures:

  • Adequate blood flow has been confirmed by vascular testing (ABI/TBI).

  • The wound is free from infection and properly prepared through debridement.

  • You’ve completed a minimum 30 days of conservative therapy with minimal or no progress.

  • You’re committed to consistent follow-up visits and care.

Skin substitutes (also called cellular or tissue-based products) act as a temporary covering that supports new tissue growth and speeds healing. Our providers carefully match each product to the wound’s specific needs — whether chronic diabetic, venous, or post-surgical.

Step Five:
Recovery and Long-Term Healing

When your wound has closed, our focus shifts to prevention and protection.

We’ll help you:

  • Learn strategies to prevent recurrence, including skincare routines, footwear choices, and offloading methods.

  • Manage chronic conditions (like diabetes or vascular disease) in partnership with your primary care team.

  • Schedule maintenance check-ins when needed to keep your skin healthy and intact.

Healing is more than closing a wound — it’s restoring confidence, mobility, and quality of life.
